I love old things.
Specifically, I love the fabrics from the mid 1930's to the
1960's and I love to collect them. These are vintage fabrics;
in the real sense of the word. Not some copy of a "vintage fabric",
but the real thing. I find them at estate sales, yard sales and acquire
some from private collections.
But I am not a hoarder, so I am making shirts out of these beautiful,
limited edition fabrics for those who also appreciate authentic,
old things.
"Trivet" and "Everglades" by Puritan and
"Alhambra" by Imperial are bark fabrics; a soft,
thick, slightly textured fabric so named because it has a rough surface
like that of tree bark. They are pre-shrunk (as stated on the selvage).
I am estimating all of them to be from the late 1950's.
The other two fabrics are upholstery weight fabrics (neither is marked
with name or brand) but they look great in a shirt. These, I estimate,
are from the earlier 1950's or perhaps late 40's. I use the vintage
fabric for the front panels of the shirt and the balance is fashioned
out of a beautiful, modern, black Kona fabric, 100% cotton, pre-shrunk.
Shirts are available in men's small, medium and large for $125. Sizes
extra large and xx-large are $150. They are machine washable (I've
tested them myself) but I recommend professional cleaning once in
a while. No dry cleaning. |
